Frequently asked questions
What is a pool cage?
A pool cage is an aluminum-framed screen enclosure over a pool and patio. It keeps out insects and debris while letting air and light through. A screen enclosure, lanai enclosure and patio enclosure are related structures; companies use the terms differently, so ask what structure is actually being quoted.
What is rescreening?
Rescreening replaces the mesh in an existing frame without replacing the whole structure. It suits frames that are sound. Full panel replacement, frame repair and structural repair are separate scopes and should be quoted separately.
Do I need a permit for a new pool cage?
New enclosures typically need permits and sometimes engineering, depending on the structure and location. Rescreening an existing frame is a different scope. Ask the company who handles permits and engineering and whether those costs are in the quote.
How do I verify a company's license?
Ask for the license number and check it on the Florida DBPR site. This guide publishes a license number only where the company publishes one on its own website. If no number is published, treat the license as unverified until you check it yourself.
Why do some companies show no rating?
Because their own website publishes no rating figure. This guide never invents a rating and never presents a review-site figure as if it came from the company's own site. No rating means no rating was found on the company's own site, not that the company is bad.
Why do some companies show no street address?
Because their own website publishes none. This guide states that plainly instead of copying an address from a directory, which may be outdated or belong to a different business with a similar name.
How long does a rescreen or a new cage take?
That depends on size, scope, permits, HOA approval and weather. Ask for a written timeline in the quote, including what happens if permits or inspections take longer than expected.
Should I choose the cheapest quote?
Compare itemized quotes, not headline figures. Mesh type, frame, permits, warranty and crew can all differ between quotes that look similar at first glance.
